Adjustable screw jacks are made with either a solid or a hollow spindle. The choice affects load capacity, weight and price.
Solid screw jacks
A solid spindle carries higher axial loads and resists bending, which suits heavy shoring towers and high formwork loads. They are heavier to handle.
Hollow screw jacks
A hollow spindle is lighter and more economical, and is well suited to lighter scaffolding and access work where loads are moderate.

- Heavy slab or tower shoring: solid
