Steel Shoring Prop Maintenance: Keep Props Safe and Reusable

Steel Shoring Prop Maintenance: Keep Props Safe and Reusable

Steel shoring props are a reusable asset. A little maintenance keeps them safe and extends their working life across many projects.

Inspect before every use

  • Tube straight, not bent or dented
  • Threads clean and turning freely
  • Pin present and not worn
  • Base and top plates flat and welded solid

Clean and protect

Knock off concrete and dirt, wire-brush the thread and apply a light oil so the sleeve nut keeps turning. Touch up chipped paint to stop rust spreading.

Store correctly

Stack props off the ground, ideally banded in bundles, in a dry area. Galvanized props tolerate outdoor storage better than painted ones.

When to retire a prop

Reject any prop that is bent, heavily rusted, missing a pin or has a damaged thread. A compromised prop is not worth the risk.
